The group of Structural and Functional Properties of Nanostructured Systems operates in the field of the production and characterization of nanostructured materials.

In particular, the main research themes are: Synthesis and characterization of metallic and semiconductor cluster beams by plasma source (patented) and time of flight spectrometry. Characterization of clusters deposited on surfaces and nanostructured materials by electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman and Brillouin spectroscopy. Characterization of cluster-surface interaction.

Study of the structural and tribological properties of carbon based materials for industrial applications. Characterization of electrical (i.e. field emission properties) and structrural properties of nanostructured materials. Realization of system compatible with microelectronic planar processes.

Synthesis and characterization of new nanostructured materials for energy storage (fuel cells, supercapacitors).

Synthesis of new materials with high technological properties (for mechanical, tribological, chemical, biomedical application).
The group is involved in many
research projects (such as the European Project "CARBEN") and collaborations with indutries and technology transfer organizations.
